In late 1989 the "elite" of the heavy rock genre was gathered in a
project to raise money to help those affected of the big earthquake
in Armenia.
A new recording of Deep Purples "Smoke on the water" was made, with different vocalists singing each verse, Ian Gillan, Bruce Dickinson and Paul Rodgers. Guitarists who contributed were Brian May, David Gilmour, Tony Iommi, Alex Lifeson and Ritchie Blackmore. Keith Emerson and Geoff Downes are responsible for the very eighties sounding keyboards, and by pure chance Bryan Adams(!) popped down to the studio and recorded some backing vox with Ian Gillan. The rhythm section was Roger Taylor on drums and Chris Squire on bass.
The recording was made up of five sessions at Metropolis Studios in London and it was produced by Gary Langan and Jeff Downes.
