Feature: Richard "The Guru" Carr

The Guru August 2002

The Guru was working as an assistant on the recordings of "Accident of birth" and "The chemical wedding". He's the one responsible for the construction of "the molossian" guitar (a guitar fitted with bass guitar strings to produce more low end) that was used on "The chemical wedding".

When it came to the Chemical Wedding-tour Roy Z couldn't do the European leg due to personal matters and The Guru was press engaged to take his place. The Guru nowadays has his own recording company Desertrockpromotions; Richard Carr Recording.

Here follows the Richard "The Guru" Carr:

Name and instrument:
Richard Carr, Guitar
What had you been doing before you started working with Bruce?
Working in the studios and playing in local bands.
How did you come to work with Bruce?
My friend Roy Z referred me, I have known Roy since high school.
Do you remember your first meeting with him?
At the studio, right around the time he was working on Accident of Birth.
What was the reason for you parting company with him?
He was very happy with his band and had asked me to do the American leg of the Chemical Wedding tour.. however he decided to rejoin Maiden.
What have you been up to since?
I have tried to work with a couple other vocalist since but decided that they didn't have anything important to tell the world and lost interest rather quickly.
Do you have any fun Bruce anecdotes to share with us?
Once at a show in england a security guard had hit a young woman in the front row, I think she lost a tooth and had a bloody lip.. Anyways.. the band stoped playing the house lights were turned on.. and Bruce "to say the least" tore him a new asshole, he was fired and thrown out of the building.
What do you think of the time you were in Bruce's band?
I can't say we've ever written a song together, but the Bruce Dickinson band is the best band I have ever played with.
What do you think of his other works?
With every album comes a fresh perspective and new story so I like all his works equally.
Guru's own question to himself:
Is Bruce licensed to fly a 757 commercial airliner?
... yes
