Abduction
It felt as if it was a long way coming but at last it did. Bruce obviously being back in Maiden, being a pilot and radiohost plus a family father perhaps put down the aspect of doing another solo album on the priority list. Also Roys other producing activities (Rob Halford, Judas Priest and Rob Rock) kept delaying the project. But inbetween all other projects Bruce and Roy seemed to work quick and painless. Well, painless is perhaps the wrong word to use. Bruce were in great pain and had to lay down in between his vocal takes in Roys dining room (!?) after have had a nasty fall on stage with Iron Maiden.
Yet again another label, this time Sanctuary subsidary Mayan was to be the home of the record. The pile of labels to release Bruce Dickinson records are piling up!
As musicians friends of Roys from LA came in use. Drummer David Moreno and bassist Juan Perez are both now in Tribe of Gypsys along with Roy. Bassplayer Ray Burke was a friend of Roy since they played together in Warrior in the early nineties. Roy himself plays on two of the songs. Only european apart from Bruce was keyboard wizard Mistheria from Italy. A man that they never meet in person but only had contact with via the internet and some telephone calls. So he e-mailed his stuff to Roy. But this was not the only unusual thing about the recording of the album. Almost all of the guitars were recorded for the demos. Before any proper drums or bass were put on ”tape” but they stayed on for the final product!
Musically the album appears as a combination of Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding. The songwriting of Bruce and Roy intact with not much added to the formula. The sounds more of the AOB, not using the downtuned ”Molossian” guitars that set the sound character of CW.
