Bruce has appeared three on this BBC pop quiz
In the first series he was on with british comedian Donna MacPhail,
with Richard Fairbrass (Right Said Fred) and Math Priest (Dodgy) as the
opposing team.
In the Guess The Intro round he had to perform some Abba, Status Quo, The Four Tops and Happy Mondays. Much amusement was had. He also came up with new lyrics to Elvis Costello's 'Pump It Up' in the Indecipherable Lyrics round.
In the second series he was on with Brian Molko (Placebo), Saffron
(Republica) and comedian David Baddiel. This time, Bruce and Brian
Molko penned new lyrics to 'Tumbling Dice' by the Rolling Stones.
This is one of the two team Captains, Phil Jupitus', comment on Bruce's appearance; "Some of the guests are dead and I have to shepherd them towards a joke and try and get them to use it. But Bruce is a monster of comedy!"
Info on the third appearance coming!
At the beginning of the show they showed the audience queueing
up waiting to get into the studio, and being busked-at by a
scraggy looking, though familiar sounding busker in a big hat,
specs and strumming an ageing acoustic guitar. It was later
revealed to have been Bruce, who had collected a sum-total of
37 pence, a dime and some pre-chewed gum. He came on wearing a
ridiculous leopard-print suit and a quiff (being Def Leppard
Clyde), to play the Last Chance Lottery Wheel.
The theme was classic Welsh songs, and the wheel feaures such
lovely songs as 'Walking In The Air' by Aled Jones and some
Shirley Bassey stuff. Bruce was in luck though, cos the wheel
came to rest upon 'Delilah' (most likely a fix). Anyway, he did an absolutely cracking rendition of the song and raised a further 400 pounds towards the jackpot.
Bruce was on this UK TV programme with Angela Rippon, John Maloney
and William Shatner! According to Bruce most
of the funny parts were edited out, and I can agree that it must have
been heavily edited, since Bruce, who is generally talkative and never
short on words, barely gets to say anything, except for reciting parts
of the second verse to "To tame a land"(!).
Bruce presented Headbangers Ball on MTV Europe twice. The
first time was on the 14th of June 1990 where he's interviewing
Dirty White Boy and presenting videos of which a couple
were from his own "Tattooed Millinoaire" album.
The second time was on the 22nd of October in 1995. This time he
did not interview anyone but he made some scary faces when presenting
the Nightranger clip for "Sister Christian" and also took the
opportunity to promote his cousin Rob's band, Catherine Wheel,
which probably was their first and last appearance on the Ball.
Bruce was taking part in the programme "Ultimate Trains", one of Discovery Europe's programmes in the "Ultimate Phenomenon" series. He is introduced as a "train enthusiast" and is talking about the British railway system and appearing on the screen on a bicycle whistling "Run to the hills". The program was first aired in late 2004.
Probably as a subsequence to him appearing on the Ultimate trains programme and
the spreading word of him being an airline pilot Bruce was asked to host a
series on Discivery Channel. The series was "Flying heavy metal" and has
Bruce telling the viewers the history of civil aviation from the first
passenger airliners of the 20s up until the current and even takes a look at
the future! The show premiered in February 2005.
Bruce does a terriffic job as a host and his enthusiasm for aviation and flying is evident throughout the programs. This and his witty and humorous style makes the programs enjoyable for airplane enthusiasts as well as his own fans, and if you happen to be an aeronautically inclined Bruce fan you are twice as lucky!
The show is curently being aired on Discovery Europe although the schedule appears to be rather erratic. Check Discovery Europe for details.
