Road to hell (live)?

"Scream for me Brazil", Bruce's first global release on his own Airraid label, was recorded on the South American tour for "The Chemical Wedding" in April 1999. The plan was to record the first night (São Paulo, April 21) for the entire CD but due to technical problems some of the material could not be used. Lucky enough other shows were recorded.

"The Chemical Wedding" is from the Vinhedo gig (April 24), "The Tower" is from Rio (April 20), a couple of songs are from the extra gig in São Paulo (April 25) and the rest of the CD is from the originally planned first night in São Paulo. The CD was produced and mixed by Roy Z in Sound City studios, LA.

The pirahna cover caused some stir among Bruce's fans and Bruce gave this explaination on why the somewhat unconventional idea turned into the sleeve. "Why the Piranha? Basically I asked Riggsy to come up with something based on Edward Munch, i.e. his famous painting "The Scream". I wanted to have Edison doing a version of the pose but with an ice pick in one hand embedding it into his skull, and the other hand being a rotating saw blade with copious chunks of wood, brain and blood splattering all over the cover. It took two and a half months for derek to come up with his painting and I think, alas, that something was lost in the translation. What we ended up with was Edison looking a trifle askance as if someone had stepped inadvertently on his toe. The neccesity to release the album before the next century led to Rod (Smallwood) coming up with the idea of the the snarly fish, which is actually Brazilian in connotation and does not involve a soccer shirt! I myself was sceptical until I saw the actual picture and I must say that I quite like it. It is certainly different, and having seen it alongside a bunch of rival CD issues it really stands out."

The album was released in Europe on the 15th of October 1999.
